Microsoft Teams is introducing a groundbreaking interpreter feature that enables participants to speak or listen in their preferred language during meetings. This real-time, AI-powered speech-to-speech translation feature even simulates your speaking voice in the selected language, enhancing communication across language barriers.
A preview of this feature will be available in early 2025, supporting up to nine languages. The interpreter will not only translate but also simulate the user’s voice in a different language, making interactions feel more personal and authentic.
This feature is part of a broader wave of AI-powered innovations coming to Microsoft Teams. Meeting transcription will soon support multilingual meetings, offering translations in up to 31 languages to ensure no participant is left behind.
Additionally, in early 2025, Microsoft will roll out a Teams Super Resolution feature that will allow the platform to understand and summarize visual content shared during meetings, including PowerPoint slides and web content. Alongside the usual transcript and chat summaries, Copilot will provide quick summaries of shared files in the chat interface, saving time and improving efficiency.
On the hardware side, Microsoft is enhancing the Teams experience on Copilot Plus PCs with a Teams Super Resolution feature that utilizes the local NPU chip to improve video call quality. This will be particularly helpful in situations with weak internet connections. Moreover, starting in January, Windows app developers will be able to use image super-resolution APIs to sharpen blurry images, along with updates to Copilot Runtime offering advanced capabilities like image segmentation, object removal, and image description.
